MISSION IMMERSION 2016
This coming summer Youth In Mission USA/Canada in partnership with Nazarene Mobilization and others (see below) will be hosting a mission training camp called Mission Immersion for 9-12th graders who are Curious, Committed, or Called into missions. Mission Immersion has been hosted by the Nazarene church for youth to explore a call into missions every other year since 2010 in various global locations. Here’s an article on MI’s history.
LOCATION
Shepherd Community Center in Indianapolis, IN will be the host location for Mission Immersion, July 6-14, 2016.
The PURPOSE of MI2016 is threefold:
- Curious: Invite participants to explore the mission of Christ
- Committed: Equip participants to join God’s mission in their Community
- Called: Immerse participants in Youth In Mission location Culture
Here’s how Mission Immersion and Youth In Mission are connected:
The relaunch of the Youth In Mission initiative is geared primarily toward offering an intense two month mission opportunity to young adults (18-25+yrs old). Specifically those who have grown up in Nazarene churches and doing something other than going to one of the Nazarene schools on the USA/Canada region. It is estimated that 89% of Nazarene youth would fit into this demographic. Young adults going to other churches, Nazarene churches, and Nazarene schools are welcome to apply and many have for 2016.
The most effective way for these young adults to know about YiM is to invite them through their local church before they graduate. The most effective way to equip high schoolers for YiM is to offer a mission experience that immerses them in the strategic locations on the USA/Canada region alongside Youth In Mission participants.
PHASE 1 (July 6-10) Mi2016 participants will explore daily experiences in Christ, Community, and Culture through a variety of activities.
PHASE 2 (July10-14) will involve 9-10th graders spending two days missioning in Indianapolis while at the same time 11-12th graders will visit select Youth In Mission locations.
Mission Immersion 2016 11-12th grade participants (who have just graduated from high school or will be going into 12th grade) will be traveling round trip from Indianapolis to one of four YIM2016 locations July 10-13. These locations include: St. Louis, MO, Detroit, MI, Toledo, OH and Turkey Creek, KY. They will be accompanied by a MI2016 staff person and a mentor.
If you are in 9-12th grade and have been to church camps or on mission trips and are looking for a hybrid of both:
Mi2016 is for you!
If you are deeply curious about exploring missions or sense a call into missions:
Mi2016 is for you!
The cost is: $375 (Travel not included)
Registration will be open in early March 1 – June 1 ($50 late fee after June 1)
