The YIM Mission Murals are created by participants at Training Camp in June and completed at Re-Entry camp in late July/Early August.

The Murals are a creative tool using thrift store pictures and magazine cut outs to provoke YIMers to reflect on their engagement with Christ, Community, and Culture.

YIM Mission Murals June 2015

They are invited to reflect on how a magazine image or wording could best summarize their relationship with Christ and others at the beginning of the summer and again at the end.

The challenge extends to their interaction with community of the church in which they will mission alongside and the context of the larger community the church lives within.

Likewise with Culture: what image or wording best embodies how they are being equipped or excited for culture and then what “trips” them out about the culture in which the will live and serve.

YIMers take these “Mission Murals” with them as a reminder to display of what the Lord is teaching them as missioners in his kingdom about their interactions and responsibilities with…Christ, Community, and Culture.

The following Mission Mural and descriptions are from Zack at YIM Re-Entry camp who served in Philadelphia the summer of 2015 as a student from Salisbury University in Maryland:

Christ: rock climber – Christ is our lifeline and our cliff. Without him we could not get closer to heaven and as soon as we depart from Him we fall

Community: tent – community is like a tent because even though it’s not a thick wall or a hard and fast shape, it is a morphing sheet of protection from the elements and is a refuge in times of trouble .

Culture: skyline of Philly inside of the sillhouttes of the people. I came to see the people of Philly within their unique context of Philly and their culture and their sense of unique community
